Mission

Providence College Athletics is committed to Student-Athlete wellness in all its forms: physical, mental, emotional, and social. “You Are Never Alone in Friartown” is a valued mantra at Providence College, signaling our emphasis across campus on creating inclusive spaces for student -athletes to grow and thrive. We embrace the diligence to proactively maintain complete health, the strength to recognize when help is needed, and the courage it takes to seek support. In Friartown, we understand that wellbeing is achieved by attending to our holistic health each day, and we support our student-athletes by providing high quality resources to aid their pursuit of physical and mental health. We aim to embrace the strength that comes from recognizing when help is needed and the willingness to talk about life struggles by providing professional assistance as well as guidance on how to have healthy conversations with teammates, coaches, and other staff members.

SPORT PSYCHOLOGY SERVICES

Clinical Sport Psychology offers general mental health, student-athlete specific mental health, and performance psychology services to all varsity student-athletes and teams.

Our mission is to provide comprehensive and inclusive care to enhance the mental, emotional, and behavioral well-being and performance (on and off the field) of our varsity student-athletes. We are committed to helping maximize the growth of every student-athlete athletically, academically, socially, and personally through expert guidance, support, and application of best practices in general mental health and sport psychology.

The Personal Counseling Center and Athletics have an ongoing collaboration to best serve our student-athletes. Clinical Sport Psychology services are housed in the Personal Counseling Center with offices in Bedford Hall and the Innovation Lab. Clinical Sport Psychology services are offered by licensed clinicians with expertise and specialized training in student-athlete mental health and performance psychology. Please know, varsity student-athletes also have access to all services and staff members provided by the Personal Counseling Center. Click here to learn more about services and staff.

Team Chaplains

Team Chaplains support our Providence College student-athletes on and off the field

Team Chaplains provide spiritual support for athletic teams on and off the field of play. They customarily attend home games and occasionally travel to away games. Team Chaplains provide individual or communal pastoral care to the student-athletes and team staff, including things such as blessing team equipment and/or playing fields, leading prayer before or after a game, offering a blessing before a team departs for away games, welcoming teams back to campus, supporting the team after something challenging happens, and similar forms of support.
